Glucosamine sulphate is reported to be a safe and effective aid to recovery
for osteoarthritis. Glucosamine is said to stimulate cartilage cells to
synthesise glycosaminoglycans and protoglycans. It is reported to have
a beneficial effect on inflammation, mechanical arthritis and immunological-reactive
arthritis. In the short term, Glucosamine has been reported to be effective
in relieving pain and increasing range of motion in patients with osteoarthritis.
In a four week double blind trial in 200 patients with osteoarthritis
of the knee, Glucosamine sulphate was found to be as effective in relieving
symptoms as lbuprofen and other pain killers. Though some gastrointestinal
discomfort has been reported in some patients, the percentage is said
to be very low. Apart from that no untoward side effects have been recorded
during trials.
MSM (Methylsulphonylmethane) is said
to be beneficial in physiological symptoms of stress gastro-intestinal
upset, inflammation of mucus membranes and inflammatory disorders including
arthritis. MSM is also reported to increase mobility in joints and to
increase flexibility in muscles. The combination of Glucosamine Sulphate
and MSM is therefore thought to be a valuable aid for arthritis and general
pain relief.
